About Scott Garrison
Scott Garrison is a music educator with several years of experience at creating and instructing performing groups of all ages and levels. Ms. Garrison has taught public school strings in the Hillsborough County School District for the past 17 years. Currently Scott is Director of Orchestras at Alonso High School. In addition to directing three levels of orchestra she also instructs and directs the school's piano and guitar programs. Before Ms. Garrison's tenure in the Hillsborough County School District she directed orchestra, chamber ensembles, jazz band and guitar classes at 2 community colleges, Moorpark Community College in Moorpark, California and St. Charles County Community College, St. Charles, MO.
Being a veteran teacher of various age and ability levels Ms. Garrison is adaptable and open minded, always striving to find ways to musically connect with students through various teaching and pedagogical techniques. Her dedication to nurturing students, regardless of age, is evident in the knowledge, experience and passion she brings to the podium, classroom or private instruction setting.
In addition to her teaching schedule, Ms. Garrison is a professional freelance cellist in the Tampa Bay Area. She is open to new stylistic ideas, always musically prepared and plays with musical sensitivity when performing in large or small orchestral settings. Ms. Garrison has performed both locally and internationally.
Some of Ms. Garrison's playing engagements have included; Tampa Opera Orchestra, St. Louis Philharmonic, Studio Musician,Hollywood, CA, Ventura Symphony, Ventura,CA, and she has played internationally in Columbia, Rome, and Eastern Europe.
Ms. Garrison holds a Masters in Music Performance (cello), a Minor in Musicology and a Pedagogy to teach the first two years of Undergraduate Theory from University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University.
